On March 12, 2017, the Moon reaches its peak at 7:53 am MST, at 22 degrees, 13 minutes of Virgo. The Full Moon is dramatic, intense, and its energy affects us. Our feelings can become really big and feel consuming; and this can be in a positive way or not so positive. Many times they are too much for us to handle with grace. We can also in this culmination of light and energy, come to realizations or finally make a decision that has been weighing on us. The Full Moon is compelling….
When the Moon is Full, it is always opposite the Sun, and the astrological signs are opposite as well. This Moon in Virgo creates an opposition with the Sun in Pisces. Along with this Moon cycle is Chiron and Mercury, with Neptune on the outer edges of the configuration; all in Pisces.
Virgo is an earth sign that is practical, analytical, and seeks perfection. Virgo pays attention to the details and has the ability to see what is, and how it could be better. Virgo loves to do something well, really well, and then bring it to others. Pisces is a water sign that is sensitive, psychic, compassionate, idealistic and creative. Pisces “feels” everything, and seeks higher consciousness as there is a deep inner understanding of the impermanence of the physical realm.
This polarity between the Sun and the Moon reflects inspiration vs practicality. The truth is that each energy brings something important to the table. There is great value in knowing how to take what inspires us and find a way to bring it to life. Inspiration left without a plan to cultivate, activate, and bring it into the world in some manner is just an inner whisper that disappears into the ethers.
Mercury, which rules the sign of Virgo, in the sign of Pisces makes an exact square with Saturn in Sagittarius. This aspect activates intuition and information that can feel challenging, yet provides a compelling message that we need to stretch further into life. That hope and growth that are necessary for continued knowledge, dignity, and maturity. One of my favorite inspiration speakers, Robin Sharma, speaks about this. He says that when we push ourselves to the edge of our limits, our limits expand.
Now this is a Full Moon and emotions can come to a head and be expressed in ways that may not turn out as intended. The shadow of Virgo is falling into a well of hopelessness that is fed by excessive criticalness, of self or others. Where the ability to make something better is completely lost. Then, with all of the Pisces energy opposing, there is the possibility of falling into complacency, apathy, or escapism.
If this should occur, take a moment and be still. Breathe. Do you best to recognize that the intense feelings of overwhelm are fed by this Moon, and will subside. If you can, talk with a trusted loved one to find a more balanced place. Remember the high expression of Virgo; the ability to honestly assess and find a way to improve anything. Engage with your intuition, and think about this; that there is always a way to make something better. You just haven’t found it yet. But it is out there waiting to be discovered. And if you find you’re in an emotional turmoil or frustration; wait to have that important conversation, or make that decision. It’s not always easy to reverse things said or done from that space.
We are all affected by the Moon cycles to some degree, whether we are in touch with them or not. As we become more aware of the cosmic influences we gain greater self-awareness and empowerment. This current Full Moon encourages us to combine our intuition and inspiration with a practical, well thought out, well-crafted plan to create positive change; within ourselves, and our world.
