New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo

August 21, 2017

Well it’s almost here…the long awaited Solar Eclipse!! On Monday, August 21, 2017 there will be a total New Moon Solar Eclipse, in the late degrees of Leo, 28 degrees, 52 minutes to be exact.  This eclipse will cut a path across the United States and if you are in the path of totality which begins in Oregon and leaves in South Carolina you can see this eclipse in full. And depending where you are in the US, you will experience varying degrees of darkness.

Astrologically, eclipses create an intense energetic opening that activates something within, giving us the opportunity to move forward in areas of our lives that need a breakthrough and seek expansion. This Solar Eclipse will block the light for a brief time, giving us pause and the incentive to realign our sense of self and vitality, providing motivation for growth, courage, and new ways of being, that require tuning into our higher self.

August 2017 is a powerful month. This will be the second eclipse in August and the second consecutive New Moon in the fire sign of Leo. Leo is ruled by the Sun and represents leadership, creative self-expression, the child, or the child within each of us, and the concept of the being acknowledged and appreciated for the honest expression of one’s self.  The shadow of Leo is behavior that is overly dramatic and “all about me”, immature, or tyrannical. As this Moon is the very last degrees of Leo, it will add more fuel to either the higher or lower expression of this sign.  With self-awareness, intention, and our personal power, we can be more successful in guiding our expression of this potent energy.

There is quite a lot of current astrological influence framing this Solar Eclipse. Mars and the North Node also in Leo sit close to the Moon bringing a message that it is time for us to reach for our evolutionary future using courage and vision to move forward. To be a warrior that strives to light up the world with honest heartfelt passion and purpose.

There is also a cardinal grand cross made up of Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Libra, and Venus in Cancer. This stressful configuration (Pluto/Uranus) has been at the core of the backdrop that we’ve been experiencing for some time. This is a long process and we need to continue to do the inner and outer work to find our personal courage to be authentic, as well as heal the wounds that hold us back from developing our inner authority and most meaningful endeavors.  And if we can keep our hearts open, remain hopeful and realize that we are all in this together, not only do we develop more lasting and meaningful personal relationships, but we have a greater chance of creating a more tolerant and peaceful world.

Lastly, there is a grand trine with the Moon and Sun in Leo, Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries. With all these fire signs there can be a strong feeling of needing to push things faster and farther than may be wise. This can be a very volatile energy, so it’s extra important to handle it with awareness and care. If you find yourself feeling frustrated, on edge, I strongly urge caution and taking a breather. Go for a walk, not a drive.  Sit quietly and breathe deeply until you feel calmer. If you find yourself in a situation that seems to be escalating, as best you can, calmly distance yourself.

The New Moon is a time to get started on something; a new beginning of some sort, but you want to make sure that you don’t jump in the wrong direction, or just too soon. As Saturn and Uranus are both retrograde, it can slow down this charging fire a bit. Use it in your favor to formulate and activate yourself and your life in the best way possible.

Mercury in the sign of Virgo is currently retrograde as well, signaling the importance of reflection, restructure, and going over the details, and more than once. Use discernment and make a plan. If the details seem overwhelming, take a break and come back to it later. If you can, wait to make big purchases or major decision until after this retrograde.  On September 5th when Mercury has moved back into Leo, at 28 degrees (the same degree as the Solar Eclipse) and stations direct, we will have more information and direction, and events will begin to unfold and move forward.

Astrologically we all have a Sun, our personal light. With this powerful and for most, a once in a lifetime
Solar Eclipse, we are brought to a time and place within ourselves and our lives where we can release what we’ve outgrown, so that we can experience renewal.  To reclaim a sense of who we are, now. To move forward with a refreshed light and stand vital and fully present in our world.

The truth is; as long as we are here on this plane, we are never really finished with our personal and collective growth. Since 2011 we have been in an accelerated rate of evolutionary growth, and there is a higher purpose to this. The world is not the same nor are we. We are experiencing growing pains that over time will create a newer version of ourselves and our world. And it is ever so important to envision with a clear heart and mind of what we want that to look like. When this major astrological push is all said and done, my hope is that we will be able to live a more authentic and meaningful life in a way that will hold this world together in peace.

Astronomically and astrologically this is a very exciting event! And although many of us are experiencing an upswing in emotions, this Eclipse is a portal where we can step up, participate in meaningful changes, and experience growth. A day to start fresh, a day to remember. Please protect your vision appropriately in viewing the Sun , and I wish you all an amazing New Moon Solar Eclipse!!

When we shine our LOVEly light the world is brighter……
