OCTOBER 19, 2017

The New Moon…..when the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun, so that the side of the Moon that is illuminated is not visible, and what we experience is what’s called “the dark side of the Moon.”  During this monthly lunar phase, the New Moon is out there, emitting a certain energy that seems quieter, more thoughtful, even solemn. This New Moon is in the sign of Libra, 26 degrees, 35 minutes, at 11:11am MDT, on October 19th, 2017.

Nature is full of cycles and the New Moon represents the beginning of a cycle. Where there was darkness, there will be movement and the gradual emergence of light. Energetically, the New Moon pulls our emotional attention to our desire for some level of renewal. We have the ability, to go within ourselves, into our own quiet space and feel what we desire. What is calling us, pulling us forward, and asking for initiation.

The sign of the scales, Libra is concerned with justice and equality, and seeks out beauty, balance, and harmony. Libra is naturally oriented to other people, to relationships and higher ideals that elevate the personal experience as well as society.  Libra is the artist, the lover, the peacemaker, and Libra does prefer life to be pleasant. Honestly, I would think the majority of us do, however this desire for everything to be smooth can lead Libra down a path of avoiding necessary confrontation, manipulation or fence sitting, which ultimately does not create a true or lasting peace.

In direct opposition to this New Moon is transiting Uranus in Aries, at 26 degrees, 31 minutes creating a tense and dynamic disruption to Libra’s usual grace and calm. Uranus is called the great awakener, bringing to light our true selves as opposed to who we think we are, or should be. In the sign of Aries, the message is to claim our personal truth with courage and conviction, even if we have to stand up, independently, in the face of others that disagree, or oppose us.

This opposition urges us to pay attention to and find balance between the Moon in Libra and Uranus in Aries. It reminds us that when we live in our truth with courage, our life and our relationships become more honest. We then can honor the needs of ourselves and others with more grace as our relationships unfold naturally.

This polarity between the Moon and Uranus may not be an easy energy to navigate. We are shown what is out of balance, so that we can reset the balance that is structurally more sound and secure. Meditate with this New Moon. If you can, sit quietly and get in touch with your feelings. What or who appeals to you? What within you, within your life would benefit from an awareness and a heartfelt intention to create a more authentic life?  Where do you feel out of balance? What is your personal truth that needs to be shared?  And what does your idea of peace, harmony, and balance look like to you? This Moon is a good time to define your feelings and share them. Or create your own rituals for setting them in motion.

Lastly, transiting Mercury and Jupiter are currently in the sign of Scorpio, providing some optimistic mental scrutiny and thoroughness to help sort out and clarify intentions and the method to send them out into the Universe.
