Full Moon in Aries - October 5, 2017

The Full Moon in October always feels extra special to me. It may be that the light is changing and there is the feeling of getting ready to go inward during the fall and winter. A more reflective time that holds the potential for deeper self-understanding, healing and growth. This Full Moon on October 5, 2017 is in Aries, at 12:40pm MDT, 12 degrees, 42 minutes.

Every month during the Full Moon our emotions build and draw our attention to issues that have ripened in our lives. It gives a signal that the time has arrived, right now, to share our feelings and thoughts, to acknowledge the truth of a situation or person, to find closure or to make the commitment to climb to the next level. The Full Moon brings a growing awareness that is difficult to ignore, shining full light on the truth of your deepest feelings.

Aries the Warrior is a fiery energy, independent and passionate, carving a path into the unknown. Ruled by Mars, Aries is the one who defends self and others by setting boundaries with courage and passion. And Aries moves fast and likes to get things done by diving in and taking action. The cautionary note to remember is this, Aries is a passion driven sign and emotions can become harmful flame throwers, resulting in words and actions that lead to regret.

During every Full Moon, the Sun is always directly opposite. This polarity between the emotions of the Moon and the vitality of the Sun, creates an awareness and some tension between the needs of the two bright lights in astrology. The key to this aspect is to understand that each side requires attention, and that with a certain amount of honest compromise, both sides can be honored.

This current opposition is between the Full Moon in Aries and the Sun in Libra; independence vs inter-dependence, confrontation vs mediation. Aries is the fighter and Libra is the lover. This is a powerful dynamic because it represents personal beliefs and motivations.  You can see that this brings up issues around relationships and the importance of the needs of the individual, as well as the needs of the relationship.

Another opposition affecting this Moon is between transiting Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries, which is just now loosening up and has for the last year raised issues concerning relationships.  Themes of freedom, authenticity, growth and healthy balance are brought to the surface and the effect of this opposition can facilitate conversation, decisions, adjustments or changes in relationships. Again, this aspect creates an awareness that there are two main issues that need understanding and expression to find a mutually satisfying resolve.

Adding intensity is transiting Pluto in Capricorn creating a square with the Moon in Aries, Sun in Libra opposition. This stressful aspect holds the potential to become an atomic detonator blowing frustrations out of proportion and moving things quickly towards a damaging direction. However, with our personal power and mindful intention, we can create a safe space for honest interaction and loving focus on the underlying pain and hidden agendas that can sabotage us so often. When we are able to create that, then Pluto can become a powerful catalyst in activating our personal healing and soul growth.

Life is fluid. Situations, conversations, and life directions can change when things come to a head, especially if emotions are heated in the moment. During this type of emotional intensity, defining moments can arise and the ideal is to be aware in those moments. With even a few minutes of stepping away for thoughtful reflection, there is a greater opportunity to avoid a quick, possibly regretful decision, and instead come to a wise choice.  When we consciously utilize compassion, courageous action and loving mediation, we can create a path forward that is empowering, more authentic, and joyful.
