new moon in taurus
24 degrees, 36 minutes
The New Moon turns our attention inward inviting us to sink deep within our consciousness and find what we truly desire. Something within us needs acknowledgement and activation. It is a time of setting our intentions for whatever it is we want to realize.
This highly momentous New Moon at 5:47am MDT, at 24 degrees, 36 minutes of Taurus opens the day of radical change as transiting Uranus moves from Aries to Taurus only a few hours later at 9:16 am MDT, ushering in a major shift in consciousness not seen for 84 years. The last time transiting Uranus was in Taurus was between June and October in 1934, then retrograded back into Aries and in 1935 Uranus finished its full transit until 1942. Transiting Uranus moves through a sign in 7+ years and affects each of us along with creating changes in the realms of collective structuring and expression.
Taurus is a fixed earth sign oriented to resources such as food, money and possessions, the bounty of life. Basic things that help us feel stable and secure. With deep roots to nature and the physicality of life, Taurus represents our connection to our bodies and senses. Ruled by Venus, the Goddess of Love, Taurus is also associated with beauty, sensuality and desire.
Taurus like all signs, seeks something. With an aversion to drama and a love of simplicity and silence, Taurus seeks peace. Creating stable relationships, enjoying the beauty of nature, music and art, living through the senses and knowing that there is enough of the simple things of life to be ok in the world are circumstances and things that are good for Taurus and supports a sense of inner calm and security.
The shadow of Taurus is needing to keep everything stable by keeping things the same. This can lead to a fear of growth, change, or taking a calculated risk. Life becomes stagnate and Taurus can get very stuck in a rut and bored over time. The lesson for Taurus is to calmly flow with life, utilizing awareness and intention to create security, through thought out plans and appropriate changes.
Adding to the New Moon energy is transiting Mars at 29 degrees, 43 minutes of Capricorn, squaring transiting Uranus at 29 degrees, 59 minutes of Aries, literally hours before Uranus moves into Taurus. This square is extreme due to the energy of the two planets as well as the 29th degree which amps up the Aries energy to the max. This can create a great deal of intensity that can feel overwhelming. Frustration, anger, and even some rage can appear. If emotions run high, be aware and take a step back. Breathe, think before speaking or taking action. This configuration can also help motivate to move forward with what brings up fear, yet is truly desired.
The other aspect adding to this Moon energy is transiting Pluto in Capricorn making a supportive trine, giving us a powerful push to set intentions with wisdom, discipline and purpose. So that we seek to manifest what truly brings meaning into our lives and to those around us.
It’s important to note that many times when an outer planet moves into another sign we experience some major world events. As an example, a little over a month before transiting Uranus first moved from watery Pisces into fiery Aries in 2010, the BP explosion happened in the Gulf of Mexico resulting in a damaging and enormous oil spill. After a short time in Aries, transiting Uranus retrograded back into Pisces. Then on March 11, 2011, two days before Uranus moved back into Aries for its 7 year transit, Japan experienced a devastating earthquake and tsunami that destabilized the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and created a meltdown. These world examples show the power of Uranus as it moves from sign to sign.
The transit of Uranus into Taurus with the New Moon preceding it can be quite dramatic. There could be some rather soon and sudden outward events that reflect this shift. Taurus being an earth sign that does not like to change, represents resources of all kinds. Uranus being the planet that demands change, creates the potential for some sudden shifts that startle, which in this instance could be financial institutions as well as in governments. There could also be some disturbing revelations in the news due to the many current situations in the US and globally that are quite unsteady.
With that said, there certainly could be more earth based events. I do feel that the earthquakes in Hawaii and the ensuing volcano eruptions, fissures and lava flow are part of this current Uranus transit. There could be more developments with this extremely volatile volcano. Fortunately people are being evacuated and authorities are watching the volcano carefully to be as prepared as possible. Time will tell what this brings.
As we get deeper into this 7 year transit, there is also the hope and the possibility of creating greater security in the world, especially as woman become more active, empowered and respected in the US, and globally. There could be and frankly should be the development of new infrastructure. One of the most pressing issues and hopeful paths is that we as a species wake up and solidly address climate change and the environment with science and commitment. That nations agree to work together for the good of all and the health of our planet. That we stabilize resources and become more inclusive, supporting the whole and not just the few. That humanity seeks true peace.
My hope is that this Moon in Taurus and the transition of Uranus into Taurus bring you closer to who you really are. That you are able to find that calm heart center deep within as you plant the seeds of new beginnings and navigate any changes that come up. And that this powerful time sets you on a path that feels right for you. Where you truly know that you are on your way, and in that, you know peace.
