NOVEMBER 14, 2016

On November 14, 2016 at 6:52am MST, the Moon will be Full at 22 degrees, 37 minutes of Taurus. When the Moon is Full, the lunar phase reaches its peak. A culmination of light in the sky that translates to our inner life, reflecting a deeper sense of awareness, intention and realizations.  During the Full Moon, decisions are made, circumstances build and demand our attention, we move forward, we change direction, we commit, or we let go.

This Full Moon is extra big and bright. It is a Super Moon and is the third of four Full Moons where the Moon is at its closest to the Earth, which is called perigee. When the Moon is perigee, it has a greater electromagnetic and gravitational pull which affects the tides, the tectonic plates, and our emotions with a greater intensity. Due to this increase in lunar power, there can be a greater potential for surges of higher consciousness.

Taurus is ruled by Venus and seeks peace, calm, and sometimes silence.  Earthy, sensual, and practical, as well as a strong connection with nature, Taurus is oriented to the stability that is found in relationships, resources, and the experience of living life through the body and the senses.

When the Moon is Full, the Sun is always in the opposite sign of the zodiac. The opposition calls us to find balance between the energies of the two signs, and understand that both offer something meaningful and wise.  This Full Moon occurs with the Sun in Scorpio, a profoundly feeling oriented water sign that is ruled by Pluto. Scorpio seeks depth and honesty, and reflects the buried issues that we humans carry, as well as the compelling urge to uncover the psychological basis for our wounds, so that healing can occur.

This powerful opposition between Scorpio and Taurus shines light on the importance of balance, that is needed between the depth and intensity of emotions, of pain, of passion, of human life experiences that transform us to our very core; and the beauty and restoration that occurs when we slow down, when we calm down, when we get back into our bodies and breathe…

I think we all can agree that our world is in the midst of great change. There is a lot of uncertainty about many things, and there are many large issues that we hear about, read about, and personally experience.  With the internet, the radio, and the TV, many of us overload on information and imagery; political, environmental, human rights…the list goes on. And don’t get me wrong, so much of this is important, and we need to educate ourselves on what we care about. But there comes a time, a day, an hour, when we need to just take a step back, to ground ourselves so that we can navigate our lives. So that we can find some enjoyment in being alive. So that we can have some sense of stability within…and find a bit of peace and comfort.

May this Super Full Moon in Taurus bring a sense of wonder at the beauty found in the dark of the night.  Where we stop our busy lives for even a few minutes, and gaze upward at this luminous moon, and have a moment of serenity.
