Full Moon in Sagittarius

June 9, 2017

On June 9, 2017, at 7:11am, the Moon will be full in the sign of Sagittarius, at 18 degrees, 53 minutes.

Look up at the night sky, under the light of the Full Moon. The sky at night engulfs us and it’s easy to feel that we are but a mere speck of consciousness in this vast universe. In those moments, a sense of wonder and esoteric mental meanderings can arise within us.

Why am I here? What is my place in the cosmos? What am I here to do…my true purpose? These are some questions that are part of the fabric of basic beliefs. Depending on where we were born, the families we grew up in, and the things that we were taught, the answers to some of those questions can be radically different.

During the Full Moon the Sun and Moon are opposite each other. This current opposition is with the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius. Gemini is a communicator who gathers and shares information and engages with a diverse set of interests, people, and life situations. Sagittarius is optimistic and naturally aligned with opportunity and growth. There is a need for movement, through the body, and in the everyday life.  And there is the need for freedom, probably more than any other sign.

The sign of Sagittarius is the Archer, shooting a bow out into the air, to see how far it can go. Sagittarius, the Archer is a seeker of understanding life, through experiences that take one into unchartered territory. Of the mind, the body, and of the beliefs. Traveling to far off lands that expand cultural viewpoints, studying subjects that open the mind to different points of view, and the development of personal values that provide support and guidance through the lifetime.

The Full Moon is a time during the month when emotions can intensify and demand our attention.  A few days when we have realizations about important matters. A time when we may feel the need to communicate our feelings, take a stand, or complete something that is ready for release.

The Full Moon is also a time when emotions can carry us away, or boil over. As this Full Moon is in the sign of Sagittarius, it can be very easy to go overboard, in one direction/emotion or the other.  Sagittarius as all astrological symbols has its lower vibration, and that is over-optimism, over-confidence that can quickly become careless or insensitive.  Do be aware of this and use caution if emotions become overwhelming. Keep in mind your desired outcome, and remember that taking a moment and gathering your thoughts or slowing down, literally or figuratively, can keep your head above water and make all the difference in your world.

Some additional influences are transiting Saturn in Sagittarius in a conjunction with the Moon. The energy of the Elder (Saturn) adds a dose of reality, and the need for cautious wisdom to the normal exuberant pace of Sagittarius.

Also, transiting Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius will station direct in the sign of Libra later in the day. While retrograde, partnerships of all kinds have been under review. Now, as Jupiter starts its forward movement, relationship issues, as well as concerns of balance, peace, and harmony, personally and collectively will begin to see some active developments.

And lastly, transiting Neptune in Pisces squares the Full Moon in Sagittarius, as well as the Sun in Gemini delivering the potential for divine opening, compassion, and connection to each other and all that is, or the shadow of Pisces, which is falling into behaviors of escapism, or denial.

We all need, in our own way, something to believe in. Something larger than ourselves that is within us, and we are part of. A sense of connecting and belonging.  A path, a set of values that we relate to, that is part of us, and will support us as we move through life. One that in the face of challenges, will be that buoy that lifts us and guides us back to a place of hope, and continued personal growth.
