FULL MOON IN CANCER

JANUARY 12, 2017

When we think of a Full Moon, we think of a big, beautiful, bright light in the night sky that is compelling. We always look up and in some way connect with the Moon. It’s an emotional experience. We can appreciate the beauty of the Moon, or become lost in our feelings about someone we love or miss. There is truth that during a Full Moon, human emotion can intensify and sometimes overwhelm us.

The Full Moon is also when thoughts, feelings, events can culminate. A time when an understanding, a commitment, a sense of completion or knowing can become more evident.  A time when decisions can be made and actions can be taken.

This Full Moon occurs at 4:35am on Thursday morning, at 22 degrees, 27 minutes of Cancer, and has the potential to be notably, emotionally robust.  Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and is the Mother, the healer, the one who always remembers. Cancer is full feeling, with strong memories, deep imagination, moody, intuitive and nurturing. Cancer energy is oriented to family and home, and can be super protective of others as well as deeply self-protective.

Another reason why this Moon can be exceptionally strong is that it is part of a powerful cardinal cross; opposing Pluto and the Sun both in Capricorn, squaring Uranus in Aries, and squaring Jupiter in Libra. Integration of the energies is the key to understanding and getting the most of this configuration. Cardinal signs are initiators, activators; the creative and courageous energy of new beginnings. There is also the possibility for impatience, frustration, and anger.  This configuration, that includes the first Full Moon of 2017, can provide some personal clarity, as well as moving our attention to our feelings as we set forth in this New Year.

This cardinal cross can feel compelling. Pluto and the Sun in Capricorn highlight the personal empowerment that can be found as we stand in our truth, and reach for our highest potential. Uranus in Aries can bring sudden shifts within, as well as our circumstances, and a strong driving desire to activate innovation within our lives. Innovation that will support freedom and independence, as well as greater authenticity. Jupiter in Libra offers opportunity and hope, with and through our relationships. Striving for balance, grace, and peace, as we connect with others.  And then the Moon….the Full Moon in Cancer. Empathetic and sensitive, and very possibly afraid to express what is needed to be expressed.

As you can see, this is an intense grouping of planets and signs in aspect that can feel challenging and could result in emotional shutdown. Remember, the key is understanding and integrating these energies  as much as possible.

For some, it may be a time to take care of another, and in that space of caring love and support, finding a way to take care of yourself. It may be that it is time to claim some space and movement in your own life that may cause upsets and/or upheavals, but is truly the right thing for you. It may be that you are adjusting to changes that are challenging, and yet are somehow guiding you to new avenues of life and experiences. It may be that you have been making strides in your life, and now it is time to deepen that commitment to your life path, or take that leap of faith to the next step, moving you forward.

Use this time to get in touch with the deepest part of your heart, your happiness, your healing. Honor it, write it down, say it out loud, or whisper it in privacy. Share your feelings with someone you love, with the desire to create emotional connection, beauty, and honesty.

In the light of this Cancer Full Moon, we are asked with watchful wisdom, to open our hearts; to ourselves, to others, and to our future. When we honestly connect to others, when we are able to share our truths, when we create safe space for vulnerability and individuality, when we reach for something that matters to us, when we connect to others in hope; we can bring love, we can bring healing, we can bring life. To others, to ourselves, to the world.
